Headline: FREEDOM SPEECH!!!
Author - Niko R.
Justification: I chose gettysburg address because it was one of the most famous and influential speeches throughout history. The Gettysburg address was the birth of freedom.
Topic: On November 19, 1863 President Abraham Lincoln delivered a speech called the Gettysburg address. The Gettysburg address was in dedications to the union soldiers that died in the Battle of Gettysburg during the American civil war. Lincoln's speech was 273 words but initially that speech would be remembered throughout history as one of the most inspirational speeches ever. The speech was less than two minutes and he began by invoking the image of our founding fathers. The civil war was the ultimate test whether the union created in 1776 would thrive or perish. The union as we know thrived.
South: The south would view this as a loss. The south would probably be mopey because they lost so many family and friends for no reason. In their eyes they might hate the north even more because now they have to oblige by their rules.
North: The North would view this as a great victory and day of remembrance. The North would also view this as a day of grievance since family and friends died by trying make the north a better place. They had won and the south had lost. The north has one of the best speeches ever. This speech is well known by many people. The speech also be remembered by more to come.
Modern Connection: If you can put this into perspective, the Emancipation Proclamation connects to President Obama. It connects because the Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves and gave African Americans rights, as the future progressed, African americans gained more rights. Eventually we gained the first African american president who has also given many speeches.
